Athletics

We are all getting ready for our school athletics.

We spent Thursday afternoon, running, jumping and throwing.

Scavenger Hunt

Room 1 and 2 had an interesting start to their unit work.  They went on a scavenger hunt to find out interesting fact about some of New Zealand's Native Biirds.

There was great co-operation between the two classes.😀

SHAKE OUT

Room 1 participate in the National Shake Out Day on Thursday.

They practised the, DROP, COVER and HOLD.

Well done Room 1 you moved extremely fast and were very sensible.

Let's Jump

Room One are doing a lot of moving.  They are learning the "heel against toe walk",  this helps with their balance and they were also learning to do a double foot jump and trying to land gently.

Lots of concentration and not a lot of noise occurred.

Let it shine

Room 1 have been looking at the artist, Vincent Van Gogh.  We thought the sunflowers were amazing and recreated them with jovi and Indian ink.

Helping hands

Our fantastic seniors helped room 1 and 2 to create a tangle of wool and cardboard to produce POMPOM'S.

Let's Move

Another great session was had with Maori Traditional Games.

Super listening, fantastic encouraging and great enthusiasm was had by all.

Let's Talk

Room 1 started their speeches this week.

They were working on, using a clear loud voice, standing still, having a beginning, middle and an end and good eye contact with the audience.

The audience were working on being active listeners.

Well done Room 1, you should be very proud of yourselves.  

You are amazing speakers.






Construction Time

Room 1 and 5 worked together today displaying the gospel value of Community when they are "Participating and Contributing". 

They were building treasure boxes, Waka Huia and decorating them with, Koru, a spiral pattern, a Pakati, a dog's pattern and a Unaunahi, fish scale.

Look at the focus by all children - it's fantastic.

Measure Time

Room 1 have been learning about, MEASURING.  

They have been using non standard units to measure a variety of objects. 

They have been using language like, tall, taller and tallest, small, smaller and smallest to explain the length of what they were measuring.

Lots of discussion occurred in our room today.😀

TE WIKI O TE REO MAORI - Rangitane and Te Keie Hauora

To celebrate Maori Language week we participate in a variety of activities put on by Rangitane.

We all had a lot of fun participating in the poi, flax weaving and rakau, to name a few of the activities.

Eye tracking

Room One are back into the full swing of learning.

This week we introduced an eye tracking activity.  

This activity develops our eye muscles so we can focus on written text easier.

Harold

Room 1 had a second visit to Haold and this time they learnt how to take care of Haolds friends and their friends.

D.H.S Readers

Today is the fourth day of our book fair and the final day of our guest readers.

We were entertained by Tina Edwards and Riley Hendley, past pupils of St Joseph's, who are Head Girl and Head Boy of Dannevirke High School.  Dr Dawid de Villiers, Dannevirke High Schools Principle, also came along to share a story.

Book Fair

Day two of our book fair.

Today we had Julie and Lisa from First Years Preschool, with some of their students, come and read to us, with amazing animination.

Harold

Room 1 visited Harold's Mobile Classroom today.

There big questions were...

"What is a good friend?" And "What makes me a good friend?"






Guest Reader

St Joseph's started their book fair week on Monday with a guest reader.  

Sharon Wards shared one of her children's favourite stories with St Joseph's students, "Badjelly the Witch", laughter, giggles and full audience participation occurred.

The Holy Spirit

Room 1 have been learning about the Holy Spirit.

Today we did I an experiment to show that God is three persons in one.

We used milk and three different food colourings, 1 for the Father, 1 for the Son - Jesus and one for the Holy Spirit.  We then added a drop of dish washing liquid to the food colouring, this is where the magic started.

Firefighter Visit

Today we had a visit by two Dannevirke Firefighters - Michael Green and Cameron Tait.

They came to talk to us about the Firefighters Stair Challenge an amazing fundraiser they attend to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.


Lane was lucky to dress up like a firefighter.
